Meet Shawna – The creator behind Downhome Shawna

 

Hi! I’m Shawna! A wife, mama of two, creator at heart, and the voice behind Downhome Shawna. What started as a cozy corner for crafts, DIYs, and Downhome recipes has grown into something much deeper: A mission to help others clean up their lifestyle, one simple step at a time.

 

My journey into health and wellness didn’t happen overnight. It was personal. After years of creating and sharing fun projects, I started noticing a painful trend,  too many of our close friends were being diagnosed with cancer. It wasn’t just one or two. It felt like everywhere I turned, someone else was battling a diagnosis. The statistics are heartbreaking: 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. That hit home hard.

 

Health has always been close to my heart. When I met my husband, he was already living with Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory condition that impacts every part of daily life. Watching him manage flare-ups, navigate food sensitivities, and still show up for our family inspired me early on to look at health differently — not just as something you “fix” when it’s broken, but something you actively protect.

 

Another big turning point in my wellness journey came when I made the decision to remove alcohol from my life nearly two years ago. What started as a personal reset turned into one of the most powerful and freeing choices I’ve ever made. That clarity led to a deeper connection to my purpose, my health, and my passion for helping others live with intention.

 

That’s when I made a full pivot — from crafting with glue guns and ribbons to creating in the kitchen with anti-inflammatory, refined sugar-free ingredients that taste just as good as the nostalgic foods we grew up on. I started diving deep into ingredients, healing foods, and the toxic things hiding in everyday “healthy” labels. And you know what? I fell in love with helping others feel better — simply, naturally, and in a way that actually fits into real life.

 

Now, I share:

• Wellness swaps that feel doable, not overwhelming

• A mix of honest, encouraging content that keeps it real
